Most network marketers, (myself included), like the idea of being your own boss and taking direct responsibility for the success of your business. Interesting I didn't say failure in the last sentence, because no one wants to fail, There is, however, a "plague" going around that is infecting network marketers, and it will take many marketers to their business "death". The name of this plague is Time Management.My wife of 33 years will tell you, when I started in marketing I was the absolute WORST when it came to time management. Let me give you 2 "suggestions" on areas where I try to control this menace on a day to day basis.Prospecting:All good marketers started with a prospecting script, and now that they are successful they kind of "wing it". Well, that just makes for a lot of superfluous chat, and you can't afford that time!For the next 100 prospects you speak to, write down the starting time, and the ending time. Also write down the starting time of you prospecting "session" and how many people you spoke to before. Your time investment is maybe 30 seconds here, a total of 50 minutes.Now take 10 minutes, (so you've invested 60 minutes total) and put a check mark on everyone on that list who is "in your business". Now look at your list. Do you notice anything interesting?My analysis showed that after 5-10 calls in any 1 session, my chit-chat time went down, and my success rate went up Basically that tells me I talk too much in the beginning, and I have a better success rate without. I need to spend less time, and I have a better result.Closing:Now that you understand the process of compiling those statistics on yourself, do the same with you closing attempts. Besides the time, also note if you tried any different closing "styles". Maybe money was a problem, so you had to do some "constrictive financing". Maybe this person was a very logical "Red" person, so you used the "Ben Franklyn" close. Note this carefully and then, after 50-100 attempts do another analysis.Again, for me, shorter and more concise is better, AND I found a couple of different closes that ranked well above the average. Now I know how best to allocate my time in this area.I continue to do this every week, now it takes almost no time. I was communicating with a friend on Facebook today about networking and communicating with new people, and she told me she is always finding that people are afraid to opt-in for free information. This puzzles her so I thought I would dig in to this, because I have felt that fear myself.So what awful things do we think will happen if we give our information to opt-in?

The first one is my biggest fear, so I give my cell phone number when I opt-in. I leave my phone in the kitchen where I won't even hear it if I am asleep or "indisposed." I turn it off when in meetings. When I do hear it ring, I answer it (unless I am driving), but if it is a recorded message I hang up right away. I only talk to people, not computers! When I talk to a person, if they offer something I don't want I simply say "no" and ask that they not call again. If they do call again after I have asked them not to, I remind them that they are breaking the law.When I have asked for information, I do read the emails at least at first. Normally, I get an email from opt-in campaigns once a day or less. I can handle that, especially if they provide something of value. If it turns out to be all sales pitches and no valuable information, I opt-out. Remember that legally, they must always provide an opt-out method and it is usually quick and easy.This last one was tough for me when I was floundering in my business and not getting any (good) direction from my upline. I spent a bunch of money on things that didn't help me. Now that I have good direction, I don't spend money on these things. I might read emails or watch videos but it has to be free, because at the moment I am too busy with good free advice to bother paying anyone for it!Now, why should we be willing to opt-in? I personally believe we can all learn new things and we never "know it all." I believe there are no coincidences in life, so if something gets my attention I at least look into it. Technology changes daily and new websites pop up daily and there are some I just never knew were there that offer great value. I have already received priceless value from several programs I opted-in to. And even if the site turns out to be something I have no use for, it can often give me an idea to write about! If it is particularly obnoxious or scammy you can bet I will use that for a blog, article, or video! If I feel that way about it, other people do too. And some people may not have the training to recognize certain programs as illegal or unethical, so I like to point those out to save people some heartache.So don't be afraid to opt-in. Just hide your wallet and opt-out if there is no value!

Believe me, even though they say optional, they are probably required in some degree to build your business.What training and support is available?Do they have a training plan? What training is available to you from the company? Is it on product or training to build a business? I will tell you that it is probably just motivational and on the products. Most companies have cheer sessions. You need to know, are there people who will train you that are not in the company? This is why the majority of the companies are weak. They tell you to make the stupid lists. This does not work anymore. Can you invest in building yourself? There is a cost. I would work with someone who has went down the trail of tears and succeeded in building a business, because they know what you are dealing with or will deal with.What are the rules for advertising and promotions?Do not get hung up on this when they tell you that you cannot use company product or company name in your advertising. When you bought your home or car, did you buy it because of the manufacturer or did you buy it because of the person you worked with made you comfortable? I would bet you bought it based upon the person over anything else. This is why I teach you to position yourself as a leader and advertise you. Why should I buy product from you? This is what we need people to see in us as we build businesses. You must add value to your customers!What is the realistic income potential from the opportunity?Here is where as a marketer, keep your feet grounded and be up front with people on income potential. If you make 5% on products and your average sale is $100, how much can you make? Well do not tell people it is millions, because first of all you cannot predict what others will do that you help. Second, it comes down to the sales; you must have a lot of sales to make $1000 in the above scenario. How I approach it, I tell people you want to find customers. Then if you can show that customer what they need to do to make enough money to pay for their products and also cover the investment to convert them to a representative. Every day, new companies are popping up. Some are using new ideas; others are tapping into proven markets. I hope that is where you are starting to look, based on the love of the products.Are there Quota's or Minimum Inventory requirements?You should not need to keep an inventory. The company needs to deliver to you; they can deliver direct to your customers. And if you are starting your business, you should create your quota based on income you want to create. This should be higher than any company quota requirement.Are the products and services affordable?Now, I am not saying cheap, but in this economy, what is the value the customer gets? If no one can afford the product and they can use cheaper products for same results they will. Now, you have to prove value, if you use less and you do not need to do something else which raises the cost of your competitions product to be equal and then your cost is cheaper, and then you need to tell that story!
