Are you a full time RVer, a part time a RVer, or are you closing in on retirement and seriously thinking about RVing?If you are, the most usual consideration is MONEY! The almost always questions that come up are:• Will we have enough money to live on?• What can we do about the economy?• Will my retirement fund last long enough?• Will I have to skimp?We have been full-time RVers for almost 6 years now and have asked the same questions and came up with many different answers.• Get a part time job at some interesting location like Walk Disney World in the winter or Dollywood in the summer.• Volunteer at a national or state park.• Try workamping. Work at a campground in exchange for a free site and in some cases pay for extra hours worked.• Don't travel so much.• Cut out golf.• Stay at second or third rate campgrounds.• Try a home-based business.In our six years we have tried a few.• We tried workamping, having both good and bad experiences.• We got a part time job in the winter at Walt Disney World. Yes, we were "characters" just not that kind of a character.• We stayed at a few really sleazy places because the rent was cheap. One place we could hardly open our door without hitting the RV next to us, and they had the nerve to call the place a RV resort. HAH!• For a time we were always looking for cheap places to eat out as always cooking at home can be tiring.• We discovered a home based-business, actually a successful home-based business. Not another MLM we said. Our friends and family are never interested in our "crazy opportunities". It never works! We don't know enough people. We are not going to chase down people at the malls. We are not going to cold call.You won't have to do any of those things, we saw, because the marketing system consistently attracts leads. This is what we really were looking for. A way we could learn how to attract business partners rather than chase after them. Yes, it was the way for us to RV in style with no more cheap campsites, no more workamping, no more cheap restaurants and finally no more cheap beer!

They don't understand how it worksThere are some illegal rascals out there, and I have written other articles on how to avoid them. So let's start by accepting that there are some legitimate, legal MLM opportunities. And let's look at how MLM works.Most people do "network marketing" every day. They just don't get paid for it! Network marketing is nothing more than telling other people about a product or service you like. How often have you shared with someone else:A great restaurant
A good movie
Where to find a bargain on a product
A product that made you feel better
A contractor who did good work for you
A nice hotel with good serviceThe list goes on and on. While some businesses will give you a reward (like points toward a future product or service) for referring new business, most will not. And they definitely won't reward you for the person who was referred by the person you referred! In other words, if they do give rewards it is "one level" only.Traditional businesses also pay for advertising. Have you ever heard the price tag for a super bowl ad? A local company providing an advertising magazine recently wanted me to buy a quarter-page ad and it costs over $300. Advertising costs businesses lots of money.Most multi-level marketing companies use exclusively word-of-mouth advertising (network marketing) to sell their products, and the money they would have spent on traditional advertising is paid out in commissions to their distributors. It is called multi-level because you earn money not just on the sales you make personally, but also on the sales made by your team. For example, if you sponsor Sally as a distributor you will earn commissions on Sally's sales. If Sally sponsors Joe you will also earn commissions on Joe's sales.This concept seems somehow immoral to some people. They think they would be paid for something they didn't do. But think about it...Joe wouldn't be selling products for this company if it weren't for Sally, and you sponsored Sally, so you are responsible for Joe being in the company.It's simply leverage. Let's say you own several fast food franchises and never actually work behind the counter in any of them. You pay employees an hourly wage to prepare and sell the food. You take all of the risk (paying employees even if no customers come in, paying the rent and utilities, buying the food) and earn money from the work of ALL of those employees when customers do come in. If you are successful, you are out playing golf or sailing or whatever you enjoy doing while your employees are working.When you work for someone else or in a business where you get paid by the job (like a hair stylist, a massage therapist, or even a doctor) you are trading time for money. You are not taking advantage of leverage.A MLM business lets you take advantage of leverage. It just happens to be a whole lot cheaper and easier to start than a "brick and mortar" business. To me, the best part is that everyone who joins your team has the same opportunity. You are leveraging the efforts of team members as opposed to employees, and every team member can grow their own team.I love the concept!

3 Mistakes to Avoid With MLM

I am a strong supporter of MLM. I believe it's the only opportunity out there that doesn't ask for previous experience, a college degree or letters of recommendation from previous employers. Each year, several million people sign up with one of the many network marketing companies out there.For those several million people, I believe there are a few mistakes that are often made that can be avoided:1. Don't assume what you have to offer is right for everyone. I see this all of the time. The new MLM distributor is told to go to their family and friends and ask them to "help out." This is not how businesses are built. Think of the newest restaurant in your town. Did the owners tell their family and friends to come buy dinner?If you've chosen to sell children's toy products and your favorite aunt doesn't have children, asking her to buy or sell your products is probably going to produce a "no." It's not fair to anyone involved for you to assume that your products or opportunity are right for everyone. This same concept will fall over into your everyday life. I see people every day pitching their wares and opportunity to those who never asked. Don't assume that everyone wants to buy your products or join your team.2. Don't offer sales pitches to those that didn't ask for them. This rule can be applied both online and offline. I remember one email I got from a man claiming to be my old long lost friend. He wrote how great it was to reconnect with me and he remembered what great friends we were. He then went into his sales pitch all the while saying he wanted to help me and what he was offering was going to help me. First off, to assume I "needed help" was a wrong assumption. Secondly I did write him back and told him a whole story asking him to send a check for $200 right away to his dear old friend. I actually never heard from him again.I get sales pitches on Facebook also. I hit delete on the message and often hit the "remove friend" option. I'm really not looking to connect with those who want to spam me with their sales pitches. When you constantly pitch your products and opportunity to those who didn't ask for it, we're back to rule one. Don't assume everyone has an interest in your products.3. Don't forget to follow up with both customers and potential team members. Follow up is key in a network marketing business. While you, the distributor want the new team member, it's not always the top priority for the soon to be new person. If someone says "call me next week," then by all means call them next week. If someone doesn't return your phone call, call again. I continue to try off and on until asked to not try again. I don't call daily, but I'll certainly try three or four times per year until they either say yes or no. I do the same with customers. If someone asks for a catalog, they have an interest in the products. I ask them if they're ready to order shortly after they get their catalog and then again off and on. I also let them know when new products are available. Again, this is done three or four times per year, not weekly and not even monthly.These are the three most common mistakes I see made in MLM.
