Spillover in MLM - Will it Make You Rich?

Many MLM companies talk about spillover in their compensation plan. I want to cover two things about spillover:
How does it work
Who does it attract
Spillover simply means that your sponsor or others who are in your upline can place people on your team. It is not a guarantee that they will! In some plans, positioning is forced. But that still means that to get spillover, your sponsor has to sign up more people. It has been said that the average person in MLM signs up 2.7 people. So after they got you, maybe they'll get 2 more. Will that make you rich?In most plans you must do something to qualify to earn money. For example, in one company I joined I needed to personally sponsor 2 people before I could earn any money. No matter how much spillover I got from my sponsor, if I did not keep 2 people active (meaning ordering a minimum amount each month) I did not earn any money. This was a binary plan; my sponsor had 2 teams and I had 2 teams. My sponsor was taught to build one team for me, not both teams, and I needed a certain balance between the teams to "cycle" (earn money.) He could put hundreds of people on my "strong leg" and I wouldn't earn any money unless I put people on the other leg. So make sure you understand what you personally must do, and maintain, to earn a pay check.Now let's look at who is attracted by the promise of spillover: people with a welfare mentality. People who want something for nothing will love the idea that their sponsor puts people on their team and they earn money for doing nothing. Sometimes they might even be offered a position with a team that already has $1 million in volume. Their fear of loss, of not having the opportunity to capitalize on that, will get them to join.But people who want something for nothing will not work. They won't sell anything or sponsor anyone. If you sign these people up, they will sit around waiting for you to make them rich. You will not get true leaders with the promise of spillover because true leaders want to earn their income based on their personal efforts. They need training and coaching when they are new to MLM but they still want to feel like they are working for their money.There's one more thing about spillover. Advertisements about programs with spillover are sometimes used to create a huge list of people. There are tons of people who want something for nothing. The list is then sold to a company that sells them as MLM leads. Honest, hard-working people trying to build a downline will pay $2 to $3 for each lead and spend their valuable time calling these welfare minded people. The Magic Bullet For MLM?

Are there really any secrets or magic bullets for success in MLM?On a training call earlier this week, my mastermind group was discussing persistence. Here is the experience one associate shared:****Early in my network marketing career I was easily derailed. I spent thousands of dollars on buying so called MLM gurus' next "Biggest Secret" that only the top 1% knew. I was looking for a magic bullet that would be my breakthrough to success.I could feel the magic buzz of being where I wanted to be as the credit card transaction took place for that course that would give me the million dollar answer, that quantum leap. I could see myself being able to sponsor 10 new recruits a month into my deal just because I bought a heavy hitter's training CD on how to do it.But those training courses didn't solve my problems, they only brought up new questions that the next, more expensive course promised to answer. I realized the pattern I was getting into.****His story echos my story, and also that of MANY others. I lost 40 pounds 11 years ago. How did I do it? Eat less, move more. The concept is simple; the execution of it is far less so. No quick fix, no magic bullet.The concept for success that really works in network marketing is relationship building. It's an easy concept to understand since we have all been building relationships our entire lives. The problem is that once we are in a business, we want to "get in the black" fast. So we approach people with that agenda in mind instead of just approaching them as a new friend.In the past I was taught, "you can't say the right thing to the wrong person, or the wrong thing to the right person." My experience has since taught me that this really isn't true.If someone isn't open to, and ready for, your products or opportunity then no matter how you approach them you will not get them to be a customer or business partner. However, if you build a relationship with them, they might refer some great people to you. And in the future, perhaps they will be ready for what you have. Is there really any such thing as a "wrong person?"Someone who is open to your product or opportunity can definitely be scared off by the wrong approach. About 90% of the population can't stand pushy, aggressive sales people. They don't like hype and they don't believe outrageous claims. If you say the wrong thing you WILL be defeated in the end, because even if the person joins you they are likely to quit because they can't duplicate what you are doing.And about those magic systems promising to build your downline on autopilot? Anyone who would join you that way, is a "grass is always greener" person, always looking for the next great deal. They won't stick around.Learn some lessons from Bob Burg, best-selling author of "Endless Referrals" and co-author of "Go Givers Sell More." Play the "numbers game". Blast everyone you can find with your deal, facing endless rejections, to get some people to join but only a small percentage of those to duplicate.
Connect with people, make new friends, never feel truly rejected, and get referrals as well as customers and business partners.
