In talking with a number of associates recently, I found out that some of them felt overwhelmed with all of the social media sites that are out there. They expressed concern that they wouldn't have time to actually call prospects and potential clients if they were to entertain a presence on the sites out there nowadays, yet knew that social media was an important part of their business. Some of them said it seemed that every day there was a new social site and they felt a pressure to sign on and participate when they were already spread thin. It's true. There are countless sites out there and available now to network, market and connect with others on that may help propel your business to success. And while a solid presence for your business on these sites is always beneficial if done right, it can also take away from time you need to effectively approach the clients that contact you regarding your opportunity.What I tell them is that I do sign up for most sites out there. However, I quickly ascertain which ones seem to be the most popular and that offer what I want to portray as far as my business. I find quite a number of those sites are nothing but spam and people hyping their business or opportunity and offer no real advantage or knowledge that will help me build my business. And when that is the case, very minimal, if any, continued participation is necessary in my eyes. Lately there have been 2 sites that I set up a profile on, and to be honest, I haven't reaped even one shred of knowledge from them. Since that is not the way I market, needless to say, I have relinquished all participation on those sites. I will leave my profile up, but since they don't really offer a chance for me to post items that will benefit others (other than if I was to push my opportunity and "spam" members), it makes no sense for me to take away from time that could be better spent in my business day.What I have learned, and what I advise people to do, is to participate in any site they are on and gauge the response and the type of information exchanges that take place on those sites. If there are links with valid and useful information posted and the opportunity is there for you to do the same, then definitely invest the time to actively and regularly participate. If the site is netting you nothing but hype and spam-type marketing, then you will be one of countless others on there and not really be moving toward valuable exposure for your product or service.As I have mentioned in previous posts, forums offer a relief from some of the social sites' downfalls. They have moderators that keep the spamming out (except in maybe one section set aside for that) and allow for valid exchanges of information and advice. And also as I have mentioned, we can definitely always learn from others who have experience in areas we don't. I spend quite a bit of my time that I allot for sites on the forums. People are generally there to learn and to help others learn. And that's an environment I want to associate my business with.I do participate on social media sites, but I stick to the key sites such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn and I make sure that my content offers value and that I develop relationships with like-minded business individuals. I enjoy meeting new people as well, and am able to share resources that I found useful in the building of my business. That, to me, is time well spent and invested and presents my opportunity the way I want it to be presented.If you make sure that you appraise the actual quality of the sites you spend your time on, you will definitely gain from the dedication of time. And time in your business is money-so it is of the utmost importance that you dedicate your time to only the sites and forums which best "fit" you and your business. By doing that, you can also improve the quality of the content you share on those key sites and stay focused on growing your business. So, take the pressure off yourself to be "everywhere". Because being everywhere will not produce the results you are looking for if you aren't even in those places effectively.

Well, I want to put network marketers at ease. The reason most companies put it in their policy and procedures is that they do not want someone tarnishing their names with inaccurate advertising. I was just in a conversation with a gentleman in a company and they were told by their company that you could not contact cold market. Now, in theory, I will take and say that what they don't want someone going out their and blasting to the world with spam messaging or emails to become part of the company. Now, that would get people upset at the company, and they really do not know enough about the company except someone was blasting info on it, and it ticked people off that did not care about the company.Now, let us say your name is Joe Smith, and you were screaming I am Joe Smith and you love the color blue and all the homes should be painted blue in Chicago. Now, many people would think that you need to be committed to a mental hospital. Now, maybe you also scream that you love Glidden paint. Now, the people hearing you may think you are with Glidden. Now, some gangs in Chicago hear this, and they start to paint homes in Chicago blue in the middle of the night. I would imagine that it would hit the news, and the news media would want to talk to Glidden to find out who this guy from their company was, and why Glidden started painting homes of those who did not want it, painted them blue? What if someone decided to sue Glidden? Now, this could be real bad press, and Glidden would have to defend their name. Does this mean Glidden has a bad product? No!This is exactly what the companies fear in the policies and procedures, not that you will paint peoples homes blue, but they have to care about what you do and say. It is their reputation, not yours. Now, Joe could be a painter, and he was trying to boost his business because Glidden had the best paint. But who had to defend themselves. Now, magnify this to the number of representatives in your networking company. One bad apple in a basket, can spoil the whole basket. Your business and no one else. What happens if you are marketing products and you find a better supplier? Will you say you are with company ABC now, instead of XYZ? No. You are still your own business. Just like Walmart, they distribute many companies products, but when you are a customer, who are you a customer of? You are a customer of Walmart.So, can you advertise you? Yes. Can you advertise the benefits of the products you sell? Yes. Can you use the company name? NO! Can you use your business name? Yes! This is one of the biggest secret tools that most networkers do not get, is the tool of positioning. You need to position your business and provide to your customers the benefits that they get by coming through you. If you do excellent business, people will be attracted to you. If you do bad business, yes the people will come after you.Now, beyond positioning you need to know how to position yourself with the products. Since I have been marketing on the internet, there has been much talk about why the majority of people who begin an internet business fail. I still can't believe how devastating this can be to productivity. To manage this he suggested setting a tight schedule and sticking to it. A daily fixed routine in blocks of time that you could journal. Have a start time and a finish time for everything to avoid overlong and unproductive meetings and such.The third he referred to as the vampire that sucks your time, distractions. Since you are working out of your home you need to determine what causes distractions for you and how to avoid them when completing your tasks. The more proactive you are at identifying them the easier it will be to work around them. This should lead to maximizing your efforts and productivity.The fourth is your environment. You need to be diligent when determining where at home you will do business related tasks. You may find that your office will only suffice for part of your daily tasks. Take your desired income and divide by your productive hours and you get what you are worth per hour. The number I came up with was staggering. But it made me realize why he called it extreme time management. Every hour wasted because I allowed myself to stray from the daily routine costs me a lot of money. The webinar really brought into focus what I needed to do so that I could give myself a much better chance of surviving in an industry whose attrition claimed over 90% of its members.I spoke of battling overwhelm which is a concept that I had never heard of. I believe that this is the single most incapacitating situation I have ever encountered. I literally had to leave one company for another. I had struggled for over a month and had not generated a single lead. The only leads I had came from a co-op that I bought into. I knew that this was a short term fix, but I was attempting the fake until you make philosophy. Well it did not work. I have been in network marketing and affiliate marketing so which one is best when it comes to income generation? It really depends on a few things which generally can not be answered by anyone other then the person building the business.Some people will make money in mlm but for me it took longer and certainly was not an immediate reward situation.You need patience and must understand that you may not make immediate income but the long term rewards could be great. Patience is the state of endurance under difficult circumstances and you will need it when building this kind of business.I don't have the patience required to stay with it long term in order to create that residual income that people typically will join for. I have nothing bad to say about the industry as it's great but not for everyone and certainly not for me at this time.With affiliate marketing, the income is typically faster when compared to the work that you put into it. You do the work and the reward follows but not always as nothing in life is guaranteed. I know for a fact that you have people in mlm making some crazy income but the average person will never see this kind of income.The percentage of people that make no money in mlm is significantly higher but this could also be due to the amount of time someone gave to it as the rewards don't just happen like magic, you need to actually work it.With affiliate marketing, you can also potentially make some great income but when you compare it with mlm, it's pretty clear to me that more people are making money with affiliate marketing.
