Humans are motivated by two things:Avoidance of pain
Attainment of pleasureIf you desire to have a successful home-based business, listing the pain and pleasure points can be useful in keeping your motivation high. I thought I would share some of mine.Avoidance of Pain:Working the hours someone else wants, not the hours I want
Having a boss who uses language that suggests I have no choice
Letting someone else determine how much money I can make
Letting someone else control how I dress
Having to be nice to people I find unpleasantWhat drives me the most nuts currently is that even when my boss is trying to tell me he doesn't expect me to stay late or come in early, he will word it like this: "I won't MAKE you stay" or "You don't HAVE to come in early." He makes it sound like I have no choice. There is always another choice!Another big pain point with me right now, is the people who "get in my space." There are some people who insist on standing VERY close to me and it really drives me nuts. I can't say anything for fear of offending them and ticking off my boss.Attainment of Pleasure:Stay in bed as long as I want, even take a nap later in the day!
Pick the hours I want to work
Some days, wear my sweats all day and not put on any makeup
Never have anyone think they can order me around
Pick the people I want to work with
If I don't want to work with someone I am free to tell them why
Use my writing and speaking abilities to brand myself and build my business
Make a real difference in people's livesI know how much happier I will be when I no longer work for someone else! Some of you may wonder, since I believe so strongly in MLM, why I am still working part-time?I still have plenty of time to get my own business going
It provides a steady income (albeit small) in the meantime
It makes my husband happyThe last one is the most important. My husband still really doesn't believe MLM will work for me. He is impressed with the changes in my determination and dedication since I found my mastermind group (although he never really tells me.) But he still has doubts that I will make serious money so for the time being, it is easier to keep the part-time job and not try to explain this to him. After all, he has many of the same pain points I do as well as some major additional ones but we cannot afford for him to retire just yet. Especially after I read Tom "Big Al" Schreiter's article on when you should quit the day job, I knew I needed to hang in there a bit longer. But I have the vision and I know my goal will be realized!
